When I was still awake at 3 in the morning, I knew I was in for a world of hurt. I've been running on fumes lately. I'm averaging about five hours of sleep a night. Despite the creaking protests of my body, I was able to get up.
My dreams act as a sort of internal alarm clock. When I know I have to get up early, I usually dream about something dangerous like getting fired. The outcome is so shocking and undesirable, I snap myself awake. First comes the relief, then the despair of knowing that I have a full day ahead of me.
When I got home this evening, I laid in bed and almost fell asleep. My little brother prevented me from dozing off when he walked in. I suddenly realized that I had to take a shower. I can tell the exhaustion is already catching up to me. Heck, at this rate, it's in front of me. I might as well check out in advance.
During lunch, I explored the area around my workplace for future reference. It's the case where things look convenient on paper but in reality, there's so much traffic everywhere that it takes forever to do anything. Half my lunch was probably wasted in traffic, waiting in line, and trying to get around in a parking lot. I need to take earlier or later lunches because this ain't working for me.
After work, I hit up a nearby Starbucks to gauge its potential as a hangout spot. The WiFi didn't work on my phone and my Green Tea Frap might as well have been a lump of green-colored ice. Disappointed but now enlightened, I hit up the Subway across the way. They're usually my go-to for something light and easy. I wouldn't exactly call their food healthy but compared to other options, it's probably my best bet.
Unfortunately, it was the most stale sandwich I've had from Subway in a long time. Are you noticing a trend here? I think every restaurant, cafe, and fast food joint put their B-team out during the evenings, because service was dreadfully slow and the final product uncharacteristically awful. Maybe it's just one of those days where all the bad coincidences line up in perfect fashion.
At least I've gotten to know the area a little better. Slowly, but surely, I'm figuring out the best tricks and shortcuts. Just gotta keep hacking it.
